Sam knew there had to be more opportunity in the marketplace, albeit in an industry he already had experience with. So, while working for the lumber company during the week, Sam would start to take on some painting projects on the side during the weekends. This would go on for over a year until the Spring of 2017. It seemed the perfect time to go all in on the painting. He gave his two weeks’ notice and was told, “the door is always open for you here.” That was a nice sentiment, and as it turned out, that lumber company would become one of Painter Pro’s first and largest customers. Sam would continue working closely with the lumber company on their projects and facilities.

How to Repair Drywall Flaws for Your Painting Project

The DIY movement is here to stay, and it can make just about anyone feel up to the challenge of a home improvement project. That’s fine for those who can handle it, but this isn’t something to take lightly. One of the most common tasks is drywall installation, which may seem simple at first glance, but can produce some obstacles. Here are some ways to bypass some drywall flaws that most DIYers will be familiar with. If these issues have already come to pass, there are solutions for how to handle the problem without making a bigger mess.

Screwed-Up Instability

It’s easy to take the stability of the drywall for granted, but it’s important to be on the lookout for things that could disrupt its structural integrity. For instance, placing screws too deep into the drywall can harm the wallboard or its paper face. This, in turn, can lead to instability because the screws can’t do their proper job of holding the unit in place. Before painting over this mistake, take some steps to protect this DIY project. First, if the screwing job is already done, don’t bother taking the failed screw out. Keep it there and try driving a new one in next to the previous one. Drill guns can make the process even easier because they’re able to be set to specific depths.

Issues with the Joints

The joints of the drywall shouldn’t be so close to each other that their edges touch. There needs to be some space to account for the expansion of the drywall during construction. Some DIYers tend to place the joints (or seams) right up against each other for a perfect fit, but this is far from perfect. Whichever joint a person chooses, there should always be some wiggle room. That being said, a tapered joint is most likely to lead to success, as people can fill in the area with tape or mud. Hanging joints are placed precariously over empty spaces, so if possible, builders should avoid them. Moreover, the space between drywall sheets doesn’t have to be big; an eighth of an inch is all it takes. It’s enough to prevent the sheets from toppling, but also accounts for growth and expansion.

Drive Popped Nails Home

Finally, popped nails make up the majority of drywall problems. Folks need to do a thorough inspection of their walls before painting to ensure that they don’t have an awkward bulge from a nail. They sometimes “pop” while the installation process is nearing completion, or even afterward. Sometimes the nail head will brush up against the surface, hence the bump. Other times, it bursts right through, revealing the nail head for all to see. The solution? Driving new screws into the drywall, preferably on either side of the popped nail. This puts less pressure on the middle nail, so builders can hammer it back into place. Remember that driving the screws too far in it will produce the problem mentioned in point number one. Lastly, a joint compound can seal those screws in place for good.

Revitalize Your Home Office with These Painting Tips

Revitalize Your Home Office with These Painting Tips

A dedicated office space is essential for individuals who do a lot of work from home but it’s also important that you feel comfortable in this space. From the choice of furniture to the color on the walls, you want to tailor your office to fit your personality and your preferences for a work environment. Of course, if you have gone through this process already, your previous design choices might feel stale or boring and it might be time to switch things up.

Changing the color scheme of the room is one of the most direct ways to transform and refresh your environment. With the following tips, you should be able to make more informed decisions about your project and create an environment that is conducive to productivity.

Consider the Mood You Want to Create

Do you want a cozy, sophisticated office with warmer, darker colors or do you want something that feels livelier and more creative? It’s no secret that color plays a major role in the feel of a room and knowing what kind of mood you want to set will help you narrow down your color choices.

Blues and greens, for example, can be very calming and are often used to foster an environment of focus and productivity. However, if you want to maintain high energy, you might choose something lighter and less dull. Yellow is a fun and versatile color that is said to boost creativity and focus as well.

Are You Changing Your Furniture?

If you are changing out some furniture in addition to the painting, it might help if you start with the furniture. There is such an enormous variety of colors out there that it’s often easier to start with other areas of the room. If you find a piece of furniture that you really like, you can build your color scheme around this feature and you can also do this with the existing furniture.

Be Careful with Small Office Spaces

In small spaces, dark colors can make your room feel tight and dark in an unpleasant way, especially if there isn’t a lot of natural light. Off-whites and crisp whites, silvers, and light grays often work well with small spaces and can make the room feel open and inviting with the right lighting. Many people also get away with soft greens and yellows.

Test Different Colors on the Walls

You should be able to go to your paint store and request some test containers of paints that you think might look good in your office. You can paint strips of your favorite colors on the walls and try to imagine how they would look for the entire room. The smaller the room, the easier it will be to imagine. You can try this with several different types of paints and once you settle on something you like, you can purchase the full amount along with any other supplies that you need for a successful paint job.

Prep Your Home for a Professional Painting Estimate

Prep Your Home for a Professional Painting Estimate

On-site estimates for painting projects are almost always more accurate and specific to your particular project. While there are a number of preparations that you need to make before the actual project begins, you can also prep for the initial site visit.

For the best results, you want to be open with your painters and help them out in whatever ways you can. Doing so will speed up the project and ensure that the final result is in line with what you imagined. This all starts with the initial visit, which you can prepare for by remembering all of the following tips.

Move Furniture and Clear the Walls

For your painters to create an accurate estimate, it’s important that they have good visibility of the area that needs to be painted.

While you don’t necessarily need to clear an entire room for the estimate, it might help to remove any major obstructions that could distort the scale of the project. You probably don’t need to go out of your way but pulling forward some furniture, removing paintings, and pulling in the curtains could help and you will have to do this anyway.

Express Concerns or Special Requirements

Were you dissatisfied with a previous painting project? Are there specific requirements or concerns that your painters need to be aware of? It’s important to disclose whatever information you think might benefit your painters and help them do a better job that satisfies your needs as a homeowner or business owner. You can also avoid needless mistakes that could ultimately lengthen the project time.

Create a Color Palette

If you plan on getting your paint through the paint company, it might help to have a list of colors that you are interested in before they show up to do the estimate.

Certain paints may be more expensive or more affordable than others and if your painters need to order material, they will be able to do so immediately since they know what you want. Even if your color ideas are general, they can lay out some of your options and let you know what’s available.

Know When You Would Like to Begin

If you haven’t thought about when you would like the project to begin, you should probably do this before your painters arrive. If you don’t secure a start date as soon as possible, your painters may become unavailable, forcing you to wait longer. In general, your estimate is a good time to discuss both of your schedules. You can settle on a date then so that you don’t need to worry about it later.

Ask for a Written Estimate

If your painters are visiting your property in person, chances are that they will give you a written estimate but if they don’t, it’s important that you ask for one. Painters should provide a written no-obligation estimate that lays out all of the costs of material and labor; this will also allow you to set aside money if you need to.

Four Expert Paint Tips for Beautiful Baseboards

Four Expert Paint Tips for Beautiful Baseboards

One of the great things about painting your own home is being able to put your own twist on your property. That’s something which simply is not possible when you are instead bound by the bylaws set down by your landlord as part of a rental agreement. Under such an agreement, it’s your landlord who has the final say over how your property looks, and it’s them who, thus, make any and all artistic conditions. This can be especially creative for artistic types in particular, as well as those wishing to pour value back into their property. That’s one reason that home ownership is so popular – it allows you to take control over every minor detail of your home.

This includes even the most minute details of your walls. Chances are, you don’t think too much about your baseboards, but they are nevertheless an essential part of your walls from a construction, as well as a décor, standpoint. Successful home décor is all about getting the little things right, and so beautifying your baseboards is a subtle, yet effective, way of doing just that. These tips can help you inject new life into your baseboards and, thus, your entire interior décor scheme.

Choose Complementary Colors

Perhaps the most important thing to mention when it comes to selecting colors for your baseboards it to choose options which complement the color of the main wall. Ideally, your baseboards should act as the perfect accent marker to your walls’ main color scheme. While that doesn’t stop your baseboards from standing out on their own, it does mean you’ll want to make sure their color scheme isn’t so different that it clashes with your wall. If your walls are light, go dark. If they’re dark, go light. If they’re blue, choose complementary greens.

Complement Your Overall Theme

In addition to your walls’ color scheme, you’ll want to make sure to adhere to your overall interior decorating theme, as well. If you’ve chosen a minimalist approach to your home décor, for example, your baseboards should feature a sparse decorative design and simple design scheme to match. If you have chosen a rustic theme, you’ll want to be sure that your baseboards exhibit a woodgrain pattern, and probably the same one as your cabinetry so as to project a sense of cohesiveness in your design.

Don’t Overreach

One common mistake with those looking to beautify their baseboards is to overreach. You don’t want your baseboards to be painted so boldly as to overshadow other elements of your décor with their loudness. When it comes to selecting a paint color for your baseboards, a little can go a long way.

Consider Your Carpeting

Last, but not least, you’ll want to consider the color of your carpeting, as well as your walls. While you definitely want you’re baseboards to complement the latter, savvy home decorators will make sure that their color and texture complement the former as well.

Add some flavor to your home with these tips and tricks for bringing beauty to your baseboards.

Paint Tips to Brighten Your Homes Dark Décor

Paint Tips to Brighten Your Homes Dark Décor

Do you walk into your living room and think you have walked into a Middle Ages dungeon? While a darker interior may, sometimes, feel warm and cozy, you can also get carried away. If you feel that you need to revive your dark and gloomy dungeon look with a little paint, you should survey the room first.

Increase the Natural Stream of Light

One of the reasons rooms appear darker is because they do not receive enough natural light. Maybe the room that is dark lacks windows. If so, you need to make sure that the paint you choose reflects light well and that you change the lighting in the room, as well. Add a light paint color, such as white with a subdued grey tone or light cream (with a soft yellow cast). Doing so will immediately brighten the living space, and you will not have to change your furnishings.

Apply a Semi-Gloss Paint

Make sure the paint you choose features a semi-gloss finish, rather than a matte finish. Again, you want to make sure that the light reflects nicely in the room. You cannot do this with a flat paint. In fact, you may be having a problem because your paint does not convey any type of glossy sheen.

Install Shutters or Blinds

If your room does feature windows, let the light stream in by adding window treatments, such as shutters or blinds. That way, you can control the amount of natural light and make the most of the paint color you choose. The idea is to lighten the room or to make it cheerier.

Add a Subtly Cheery Color

To add more cheer to a gloomy living space, choose a color, such as pale yellow or a very light hue of peach. Doing so will add cheer, but it will do so subtly. Don’t resort to painting the room sunshine yellow, as it may result in “too much cheer.” After all, you want to feel more positive. However, you do not want to create the opposite effect and go overboard with your refurbishment.

Stay in the Middle

Think about how you use the room. If you mainly use the room for watching TV or for reading, you need to make sure you can control the amount of light and add a paint color that is not too distracting. When a paint color is too dark or bright, it can have an unpleasant effect. That is why you want to stay in the middle when selecting paints.

Apply Two Coats of Primer and Paint

Look at the neutral shades that add a bit of cheer, as well as pale and happy looking colors for a darker colored room. Also note, that it is more difficult to go from dark to light. Therefore, you will need to apply more than one coat of primer and more than one coat of a lighter and cheerier paint.

Take Your Time

Both the paint color and lights that you use must be assessed before you make an adjustment. Take time to look at the design of the room and find out where to place the lighting arrangement. Converting a gloomy and dark room into a cheery abode takes some planning and time. Consider the lights, paint colors, and window treatments when making this type of upgrade.

How to Choose Paint Colors for Your Commercial Space

How to Choose Paint Colors for Your Commercial Space

If you are choosing paint colors for a commercial space, you need to think about how the space will be used. While certain colors look great in a medical office, they may not offer the same type of appeal in a lawyer’s office. If you are using the space to sell things, you also need to choose a whole new color scheme.

How to Make a Color Choice

To choose the right paint colors, you need to base your decision on how the space will be used, who will be inhabiting the space, and the kind of effect you want to convey. For example, if you want to paint a medical office, you certainly do not want to use colors, such as yellow and red. Doing so, may make patients nervous and feel trepidation. Instead of issuing a type of “emergency” color warning, you need to keep the feeling calm and peaceful. After all, a patient visits a doctor to feel better, not to feel more upset.

To ensure painting success for a medical office, you need to concentrate on calming or neutral hues, such as soft blue or soft cream. The whole idea is to make the person visiting the office feel more peaceful. You should also paint an office, such as a dentist’s office, with the “relaxed” effect in mind. A patient who visits a dentist is already anxious. However, if he or she walks into a place that produces a calming effect, they will feel that any of the nervousness they feel is just silly.

Getting People to Buy What You Sell

Alternatively, you do not want to add a light and calming blue in a retail facility – or a place where you want to evoke a selling response. Blue might be added in a high-end store. However, if you are selling food, you want the person to buy the product, not languish a little in your shop and choose to go elsewhere.

That is why you see fast food facilities decorated in vibrant foods. Red, for instance, means action. If you want your customers to buy food at your restaurant or you wish to invoke a selling response in another retail value, it is okay to paint your commercial facility in a more vibrant hue. You may want the color scheme to match your brand’s logo for added effect.

What Exactly Are You Selling?

As noted, you need to consider what you are selling. Maybe you are selling furnishings. If so, you may want to add neutral tones so you can match the furniture more easily with the displays. If you are selling fine jewelry, you may want to add a more luxurious tone, such as dove grey. In fact, this color is an ideal color to select if you are painting a hotel property. Not only does it convey elegance, you can match your bedding and furnishings nicely with the hue.

Be extra careful about the colors you choose. The idea is to incite the right response from your customers and employees. By choosing the right tones and shades, you will receive more employee cooperation and increase your earnings at the same time.

Why Hiring a Professional Painter Is a Good Investment

Why Hiring a Professional Painter Is a Good Investment

Maybe you’re considering putting some value back into your home, and you’ve decided that the best way to do so would be with a fresh coat of paint. Maybe you’ve decided that your home’s present paint job is too rundown and it could use a touchup. Maybe you’ve decided that your company’s aesthetic is too old fashioned and you want to make it look crisper and more cutting edge, and you have decided that should begin with – you guessed it – a fresh coat of paint. There are any number of different reasons why you might be interested in repainting your property, but whatever the reason might be, there’s every chance that you might find the task to be overwhelming.

That’s why you’ll want to turn to the best professional painters in your area to get the job done. No matter your decorating ambitions, hiring professional painters is always a smart move – and here’s why.

Higher Quality Paint

One of the limitations of any amateur is the materials with which they have to work. An amateur filmmaker might be the next Fellini or Kubrick, but without a professional grade film camera, even in the Age of the iPhone and cheap HD video, their films almost certainly won’t look as good. The same goes when it comes to painting your home or place of business with consumer-grade paint. Try as you might, it simply won’t look as good as a job performed with professional-grade paint. The best painting professionals have access to the best-quality paint out there, and can, thus, give your interior and exterior décor that little something extra.

Quick Turnaround Times

How long do you think it might take you to paint a room? A few rooms? A whole story? Chance are it’s longer than you think. We have a tendency to overestimate our ability and especially our speed when it comes to tasks we don’t do every day. You may think based on applying a bit of touch up here and there that you’re ready to take on the whole house, but chances are you’ll end up taking hours or even days if you attempt to do so. By contrast, professional painters are trained not just in how to properly apply paint to home, but how to do it quickly. The best professional painters can, thus, promise you a quicker turnaround time on home and office painting projects than you could ever pull off yourself.

Clean Paint Jobs

One of the biggest problems that amateur painters have when trying to paint their homes is cleaning up after themselves. That may seem like a trivial thing, but it’s no small matter, and far more difficult than you might imagine. It is all too easy to drip on the carpeting or let the paint streak. By hiring the services of a professional painter, you’re making sure that you get a clean, even paint job from end to end. What’s more, hiring professionals saves you the trouble of having to clean up after yourself after painting.

All this and more serve to demonstrate why a professional painter is worth it.

Four Ideas for Painting Your Office Space

Four Ideas for Painting Your Office Space

Your office is one of the most interesting rooms in your home from a tonal standpoint. On the one hand, it’s a space which is uniquely and definitively your own, which invites the imagination to come up with all kinds of creative ideas. On the other hand, it’s the space in which you do your work, which can understandably make it feel a bit drearier. However, it doesn’t have to – with a fresh coat of paint, you can transform your office into so much more than a mere place to mull over facts and figures. Indeed, with a few great paint ideas, you’ll be able to breathe whole new life into your office and make it more than a mere place to do work, but a sanctuary.

Whether you’re looking to repaint your home’s office or redo your personal office at work, here are a few tips and tricks to help you transform your office into something special.

Keep it Professional

First and foremost, you’re naturally going to need to make sure that your office’s paint job retains an air of professionalism. If you were looking to repaint your office interior electric green for some reason, you’ll probably want to put those plans on hold. That being said, professionalism doesn’t have to be synonymous with dreariness. On the contrary, a sharp contrast between lighter and darker hues can give your home a contemporary minimalist-chic look. To pull this off, you’ll want to be sure to choose colors which are clearer, crisper, and bolder, rather than the more muted hues you might employ in your master bedroom.

Brighten Things up

You’re going to have to spend a considerable amount of time in your office. The last thing you need is for it to look like the literal embodiment of doom and gloom. While you probably won’t be turning your office into a party room, you’ll still want to brighten things up a bit with brighter, warmer colors. Whether you go for that aforementioned contrast between lighter and darker hues or go with bright bold white or go for something a little softer, brighter colors can help you make it through the day.

Don’t Be Afraid of Color

While we’ve discussed office painting schemes thus far in terms of darker and lighter hues, the subject is far from “black and white,” though you will certainly want to steer clear of “shades of grey.” Instead, don’t be afraid to look into bolder colors. While you probably don’t want a big splash of primary colors on your main walls, adding them along the baseboards or as accents near doorways can add some much-needed color, style, and brightness to your space, all while keeping things professional.

Make Things Distinct

Last, but not least, you’re going to want to make sure that you take the time to make your office area pop a little bit. Accented colors, dark-light color schemes, vivid blues and greens along your baseboard – there are a wide range of ways to make your office décor pop.

Breathe new life into your office décor with these simple steps.
